MW4 DMZ Extraction Guide

Disclaimer — Unconfirmed

MW4 has not been officially detailed, and DMZ's return is unconfirmed. The extraction loop below follows the established DMZ mechanics from Modern Warfare II (2022). Exact MW4 timing, costs and rules are flagged unconfirmed.

Extraction is the entire point of DMZ. Everything you do — loot, missions, kills — only matters if you get out alive. Here is the full exfil loop.

The extraction loop

1. Find an exfil point

Maps have designated helicopter extraction points, marked on your tac map. Head to one when you are ready to leave.

2. Call in the chopper

Interact with the exfil point to call the helicopter. This historically costs in-game cash (not real money). The exact MW4 cost is unconfirmed.

3. Defend the landing zone

The chopper takes ~60-90 seconds to arrive. During that window:

  • The LZ lights up for other players and AI to see.
  • Enemies converge on your position.
  • You must hold the zone and stay alive.

Warning

The LZ defense window is the most dangerous moment in DMZ. Other squads will hunt you for your loot. Keep moving, use cover, and do not bunch up.

4. Board and extract

When the chopper lands, board it. Once you are in, you extract with everything you carried. The match ends for you — your loot is banked.

What you keep vs what you lose

See our DMZ stash & crafting guide for the difference between contraband (lost on death) and insured weapons (retrievable after a cooldown).

Extraction tips

Do not wait until the last minute

The match timer forces everyone to exfil at once if they are still in. If you wait, you fight the whole lobby at the exfil points. Extract early when the zone is quiet.

Bring a teammate

One player calls the chopper; the rest watch angles. A solo extraction is much harder than a squad extraction.

Keep cash for the exfil call

The exfil call costs cash. If you spend everything on gear, you may not afford to leave. Always keep a buffer.

Pre-plan your route

Before calling, scope the exfil point. Note cover, sightlines and where AI spawn. A bad LZ choice kills more runs than enemy players do.

Operator Tip

Read our DMZ tips for beginners for the full survival checklist that pairs with this extraction loop.

What happens after you extract

Your loot goes to your FOB stash. Contraband weapons sit there ready for your next run. Cash and mission progress bank permanently. You can re-drop immediately or re-kit at the FOB first.

FAQ

Can I extract anywhere?

No. You must use designated exfil points. There is no "leave anywhere" option.

What if my whole team dies?

If everyone dies, the run is over. Any insured weapons go on cooldown, and contraband is lost. Reviving is possible mid-match if a teammate reaches you in time.

Is extraction the only way to end a match?

You can also let the match timer expire, but you will likely be forced to exfil or die anyway — and dying forfeits your loot.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does extraction work in MW4 DMZ?

You find a helicopter extraction point, call in the chopper (usually costs cash), defend the landing zone for about 60-90 seconds while it lands, then board the helicopter to extract. Everything you carry out, you keep.

What happens to my gear if I die before extracting?

If you die before boarding the chopper, you drop your loadout. Contraband weapons are lost, and insured weapons go on cooldown before you can use them again. Teammates can sometimes recover your gear.

How much does it cost to call an extraction helicopter in DMZ?

The exfil call historically costs in-game cash (not real money), with the amount varying by map and exfil point. The exact MW4 cost is unconfirmed.

Can I extract with my whole team?

Yes. One player calls the chopper and the whole squad can board once it lands, provided you all reach the landing zone before it leaves or before enemies overwhelm you.
